Nick Kyrgios’ manager Daniel Horsfall reveals the Australian tennis star is forced to miss theFrench Opendue to a foot injury sustained during the theft of his Tesla car in Australia. On May 1st, Kyrgios’ mother was held at gunpoint in front of her house as the theft demanded to be given the keys to her son’s green Tesla.

Norlaila Kyrgios went inside the house and gave the keys before calling her son to explain what happened. Later, Kyrgios helped the police locate the car through his Tesla app. Kyrgios, who had knee surgery in January and hasn’t played any tournaments in 2023, pulled out of the French Open this week.

“During the incident on May 1, they had the armed robbery at the house. With all the stuff that was going on Nick lacerated the side of his left foot. We don’t know how.

Basically, it’s just set him back about two-and-a-half weeks in terms of his loading schedule to get back on court for what we thought was going to be the Grand Slam,” Horsfall told Reuters. After Kyrgios pulled out of the French Open, the initial belief was that the Australian’s knee wasn’t ready yet for the demands of a tennis match.

But Kyrgios’ agent says the Australian’s knee is now as good as ever. “He couldn’t slide, couldn’t get on court because every time he put a shoe on it moved and it would reopen. His knee, as far as we’re concerned, is actually in fantastic shape, the surgery went well.

His fitness is at a fantastic level. It was just when we got to the last point of that rehab, the on-court loading, this freak accident happened,” Horsfall explained. Now that Kyrgios is out of the French Open, he will certainly turn his focus on being ready to play again during the grass season.
