Good news for the Kansas City Chiefs fans: Andy Reid isn’t retiring anytime soon, but rather starting the next season as the highest-paid coach in the history of the NFL.

Although the news of his return was announced shortly after his team’s Super Bowl victory in Las Vegas, it didn’t shut down his contract extension speculations.

In his eleven years as the head coach with the Chiefs, Reid led the franchise to win three out of their four Super Bowl appearances, seven straight AFC conference games, and much more. Not only is he remarkable at playcalling, but he also shares a profound relationship with his players.

Under him, Patrick Mahomes won three Super Bowl championships, and the Chiefs became one of the only two teams across the NFL to win two back-to-back Super Bowl trophies. There wasn’t even a question about his contract extension, regardless of the result of the Super Bowl LVIII.

As per the NFL Network’s insider, Tom Pelissero, Reid is up for a big contract extension for next season and says he and the Chiefs are expected to have negotiation talks anytime soon in the coming weeks to work out a new contract. A source close to the NFL also revealed that Reid is likely to become the highest-paid coach in NFL history.

Upon hearing the news from Pelissero, the Chiefs fans are truly in seventh heaven. Reid is one of the top coaches in the NFL, compared closely to the legacy that legendary coach Bill Belichick built in two decades with the New England Patriots.

After coaching the team to back-to-back Super Bowl wins, the Mahomes-Reid duo is considered the successor to Tom Brady-Belichick’s legacy.

Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here’s what fans have to say:

Fans argue that the retirement was never off the team, as Reid knows the Chiefs can even win 2-3 more Super Bowl trophies.
