Manchester United, in search of a new left back, have made a loan offer of £2.5 million to Chelsea for the defender Marc Cucurella.
The Blues have started negotiations with Manchester United, but they want £5 million for loaning their Spanish defender.
Since Luke Shaw will be out for a while with a muscle ιnjury, United has been looking for a new left back.
United only has 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez as a legitimate left back option because Tyrell Malacia, another potential starter, is also injured and out of commission.
United played Diogo Dalot at left back in their 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but they still want to get a temporary replacement for Shaw before the transfer deadline on Friday.
United considers Cucurella to be the best option since he is the player they believe would adapt to Erik ten Hag’s system the best.
The Spanish international has been an unused substitute in all three of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season. He now sits behind Ben Chilwell in Mauricio Pochettino’s pecking order.
He moved to west London from Brighton for £55 million in 2022 and saw action in 33 games for the troubled Chelsea team.
After reports surfaced that Marcus Alonso had rejected a loan transfer to Old Trafford in favor of staying at Barcelona, United reportedly turned to Cucurella as a replacement.
Mail Sport reported on Monday that United had made preliminary inquiries into the availability of Rico Henry of Brentford and Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham as prospective alternatives.
The 26-year-old was a regular in the Premier League last year, missing only three games.
Henry’s signing would come at a large cost, and at this late stage in the window, it is thought that he would be difficult to entice away from Brentford.
