Ja’Marr Chase refuses to mention Patrick Mahomes’ name when discussing the Top 100 NFL Players list

In the recent NFL Top 100 players’ list, critics chose Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes as the No. 1 player which Bengals Chase did not want to acknowledge.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Ja’Marr Chase is not the biggest fan of Patrick Mahomes and a staunch backer of his Bengals teammate and quarterback Joe Burrow. Chase’s faith in Burrow stems from their long-standing friendship from LSU days.

So, when asked about whether he approved Mahomes as the No. 1 NFL player, Chase refused to comply. A recent clip from NFL Films documented his feelings toward the recently released list.

Burrow finished 15th in the rankings, while Chase was two places ahead of him in 13th, and sandwiched between them was Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones. Yet for the second year in a row, Patrick Mahomes topped the list, followed by 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns.

When will the Bengals give Ja’Marr Chase a new contract?

The wide receiver market shook up massively in the last few months, with several teams giving their wide receiver No. 1’s new extensions. This included Amon-Ra St. Brown ($30 million), AJ Brown ($33 million), and Justin Jefferson ($35 million).

Chase’s rookie contract runs out after this season, with a fifth-year option available for the Bengals to activate. The 24-year-old will earn an estimated total of $7.4 million with a base salary of $1.05 million and a cap hit of $9.8 million.

While speaking with the media, Bengals’ owner Mike Brown marked Chase as one of the key players of the team, and they will pay him accordingly.

There’s still a chance of the market witnessing another reset with receivers, like CeeDee Lamb and Brandon Aiyuk, waiting for a new deal. The Dallas Cowboys wideout in particular could match or even better Jefferson’s deal.

Chase has a great case for a massive extension because he has put up numbers to back up his claims. In three seasons, the LSU graduate caught 268 passes for 3717 receiving yards and scored 29 touchdowns.
