Novak Djokovic is finally an Olympic gold medalist. All the odds were stacked against him when he played his second final of the season on Sunday (August 4). But a determined Djokovic, chasing his first gold in his possible last Olympics, beat Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(3), 7-6(2) in Paris to script history.

Even though he has been going out wearing the medal in Paris, he doesn’t get enough chances to hold the coveted prize, thanks to his kids. In a recent interview, Djokovic was asked whether, like many athletes, he too slept with the medal.

Djokovic’s kids were in the stands of Court Philippe-Chatrier to watch their dad play against the 21-year-old. His daughter, Tara, even held a board with the words, “Dad is the best” to support him.

The Olympic gold was Novak Djokovic‘s first title this season, as before it, he was able to play just the Wimbledon final. In the tournaments he participated in this year, his performance was mediocre, and even in an ATP 250 event, he faltered.

After his Olympic gold, the author of his biography, Mark Hodgkinson, who wrote ‘Searching for Novak: The Man Behind the Enigma‘, revealed why the Serb is so successful.

As his biggest goal of the season was to clinch more major titles and Olympic gold, he tried to give his best in those tournaments. At Roland Garros, he struggled but survived until the meniscus tear did not allow him to compete anymore.

Then came Wimbledon, and he lost in straight sets to Carlos Alcaraz. After this defeat, there were discussions about whether the Serb’s form was finally on the decline. Now the tennis fraternity is debating about whether the 37-year-old will be fit to play the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, thanks to his strong show in the Paris Olympics final.
